The 30-degree guarantee

It's a gorgeous day here in Denver today - 73 degrees! And only a week and a half ago, it was 13 below zero! Apparently the weather team at KALC radio has implemented the 30-degree guarantee. That is, whatever weather they forecast, they guarantee to be correct, plus or minus 30 degrees. That sounds reasonable.... challenging even!

Oh, I am SOOOOO ready for spring!

Whoa.....whoa.....whoa......

Wow... the last hour has been really overwhelming for me.

1. Sasha takes silver, Irina takes bronze....what happened? It's Salt Lake City all over again!

2. My favorite pianist, Anthony Burger, passed away yesterday. I was privleged to hear him play twice at the Gaither Homecoming shows when they came to Denver. He was only 44. Find more information on the Gaither website, http://gaither.com/news/news1101.html.

3. The Twilight Zone

I feel like I have reached through time and space to sit with my late grandmother. She passed away in 1998, and at that time, I inherited her spinnet piano. I was playing for fun this afternoon, playing Beautiful Ohio in the stride piano style like my mother plays it. (I learned it years ago from her sheet music and memorized it.) Then, I switched to playing Glowworm, which my grandma used to play for me. She didn't play from any sheet music - she played by ear, and before she died, she taught me how to play the right hand chords. So that's what I started playing. Then suddenly, I was aware that I was playing both hands! I was stunned! It was Glowworm, exactly as Grandma used to play it, but it was coming through my own fingers! And on her own piano, nonetheless! The connection soon became apparent - my grandmother always played stride piano, just like I had been playing a moment before in Beautiful Ohio, and by "coincidence," the two songs happened to be in the same key. My subconscious self made the connection and started playing from muscle and ear memory. I'm still in awe.

Bravi tutti!

Last night I saw Norma at Opera Colorado. Absolutely fabulous! In fact, I think it's my new favorite opera. Bellini outdid himself with the music - it is truly a timeless masterpiece. And the performers only added to the magic with their exquisite and passionate vocals and equally masterful orchestral playing. Bravi tutti! Well done!

Happy Birthday, Part II

And, Happy Birthday to my godson, Dillon Patrick Jensen! Dillon was born this morning at 10:26am. I was delighted to be at the hospital with his family when he made his grand entrance. He is perfectly healthy and his parents are still glowing.

Killer Kitten

Trisket killed his first mouse tonight.

Unfortunately, it was an infrared computer mouse.

From this day on, cats and spillable beverages do not go on the same desk.

World's Newest Blogger...Me!

Ok, Melissa! You got me! But don't expect too much from me, ok? I am, after all, the world's newest blogger!

So, this evening I started another opera workshop up in Loveland. I've got my work cut out for me, especially since I'm also rehearsing solos and choral parts for two Bach concerts and preparing for the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Vocal Competition in a couple weeks, and all the events and such involved in running a private voice & piano studio. Whew!

So, this is just a scratchpad, so I don't have to actually have an introduction, body and conclusion, huh? I can just randomly stop typing. I'm not sure if I can handle the lack of structure!
