RMN Review

REVIEW: http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2009/feb/16/design-overcomes-opening-night-woes/

"John Baril's chorus sang well, and moved busily under Andrew Sinclair's stage direction." Yay, chorus!

We'll ignore the fact that they gave the production a "C" overall. Besides, the Rocky Mtn News will probably go under in a month or so, and Opera Colorado will still be going strong! :-p

It seems like the reviewer's main problem was with the story itself, and oh, by the way, there were people singing and dancing or something. Unless his intention was to criticize Opera Colorado for choosing this show to produce, it was a poorly written article. But then, if I thought I was going to lose my job, I don't know how hard I'd work on writing a good article either.

Can't wait to see you tonight!

Sorry the review was lukewarm. I wonder sometimes if the reviewers in a local paper have the knowledge of opera to give it a truly accurate review anyway.

No sour grapes though...friend. The RMN is the better paper, so its sad to lose both the history and the voice it brings to Denver.

Thanks, you guys. Pearl Fishers isn't touted as one of the best operas out there, but I personally love it when a company produces something I'm not likely to see anywhere else. I mean, you could go see Marriage of Figaro (which I love) or La Boheme every year around here if you want to, but Pearl Fishers is something out of the ordinary. And it has absolutely gorgeous music all the way through! I love it.

Meli, to tell you the truth, I'm more of a RMN fan than a Post fan, too. The Post hasn't reviewed the show yet, though.
